Sterling College Varsity Softball drove down to Oklahoma City Thursday morning as they prepared for their games against Mid-America Christian University and Langston University.
These two games came in the form of makeup games that were previously canceled or postponed due to winter weather.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, it proved to be a challenging day of play as they loss 7-1 against Mid-America Christian and lost 13-8 against Langston.
In their first game of the day, against Mid-America Christian University, the Warriors scored first in the top of the second inning, making it 1-0 going into the third.
By the bottom of the fourth, the Evangels had taken a lead of 2-1 against the Warriors. MACU had a big inning during the bottom of the sixth to win the game in seven innings with a score of 7-1.
The second game of the day for the Warriors was against the Langston University Lions. Sterling started the top of the first by pushing across four runs, getting a good lead on Langston early on.
Langston responded with one run of their own, making the score 4-1 Sterling after the first inning.
In the next two innings, the Lions scored seven of their own runs while holding the Warriors scoreless, taking a lead of 8-4 after the third inning.
Not willing to stop fighting, Sterling answered back with three more runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth inning.
Despite their efforts, it wasn’t enough to hold off the Lions offense. The Warriors lost 13-8 after seven innings of play.
The Warriors only had two recorded errors on the day, with a combined total of 18 hits through both games.
The Warriors will hope to play their next game Friday, March 1 against Langston University in OKC as day one of the two-day Langston Tournament.
