Wednesday afternoon held the doubleheader between Hutchinson Community College and Sterling at home.
These games proved to be a challenge for the Warriors as they dropped both games to the Dragons.
The first game ended with the Dragons winning 12-0. The second game the Warriors prevented the shutout but still lost 11-2.
Errors, home-runs, and well-placed hits were all elements that factored into the number of runs that Hutchinson was able to put up.
On top of having a tough day, there was also a player injured in the first game of the day. The first baseman and the pitcher collided going in for a ground ball up the first base line. The pitcher was not injured but the first baseman, Olivia Komsa, was on the ground for a good amount of time.
“I had a rough outing tonight,” said Komsa. “I had a collision with my pitcher in the 5th inning of the first game that took me out of the second game. ”
“We held them to 1 run until the 3rd inning of the first game,” said Komsa. “By the top of the 5th, it was 11-0 which was tough. It’s hard looking at a score board that says Home-0 and Visitor-11. We just couldn’t hit. We had several opportunities to score runs and we couldn’t pull those runs across. We didn’t execute. We were done in the 5th inning.”
The second game the Warriors played a full 7-innings against the Dragons and put up two runs of their own.
“We couldn’t score runs!” said Komsa. “We had several errors between the two games. We also went down looking at the plate which is not okay. We need to swing the bat and be more aggressive. ”
JV softball now looks forward to their last doubleheader of their 2019 season which will take place on Thursday at Bethany College. Game one will start at 5 P.M.
