This past weekend, the varsity Lady Warriors volleyball team played their first home games of the season and ended the Sterling College Volleyball Invitational with a 3-1 record.
The Lady Warriors played their first game on Friday against Central Christian College from McPherson, Kansas. The game ended quickly, in three matches, with Sterling taking the win over the Tigers. In the next game, the Warriors took on the Presentation College Saints out of Aberdeen, South Dakota. Each match was close, and Sterling fought hard to win the third match taking the game into another match. But the Saints built their lead and won the fourth match, finishing the game.
After their going 1-1 for the night, KCAC Player of the Week, Chelsey Riffel, had a positive outlook for the next day, “Tomorrow is a new slate. We can just go out there and fight like we did tonight.”
On Saturday, the games were located at Sterling High School due to the Warriors’ home football game later that evening. The women began the morning at eleven playing against Bethel College. After losing the first match, the Thrashers put up a fight and came back to win the second match. The Warriors shut them down though and won the final games winning in four matches. Right after that win, the Warriors took the court for the last time this weekend, playing against Baptist Bible College from Springfield, Missouri. This game was another quick one and the Warriors won in three matches.
Mikaela Wells, the KCAC Setter of the Week, expounded on her team’s ability to learn quickly, “Every time we’ve stepped on the court this year I’ve just seen so much growth. I was super proud of the team last night.”
The Lady Warriors Volleyball team continues their season with another home game this Wednesday, September 6th, against the Ottawa University Braves. JV plays at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7:00 p.m.
