According to Sterling College, Gary Thomas is a bestselling author and international speaker. Having published books such as “Sacred Marriage,” “Sacred Pathways,” and “Authentic Faith.” He holds a master’s degree with a concentration in systematic theology from Regent College in Vancouver.
On Friday Sterling College hosted Thomas for the Ross and Fern Freeman Lecture Series For Servant Leadership. This is an established lecture in series on the idea of, according to Sterling College, “servant leadership not only has the potential to influence societal change, but can also provide both practical and successful management skills that can be easily applied to diverse situations.”
Thomas has great connection to Sterling college, he loves speaking to the demographic. College students who can relate and those can’t can receive a greater understanding on the matter of marriage.
“I’ve been inspired to see this community of faith in what looked like the middle of no where. I drove through the fog, so maybe there is a lot more around here I missed,” Thomas said.
Thomas enjoys speaking to college students because his education was so impactful for him.
“My college years were so formative for me, I met my wife in college,” he said. “I grew my roots deep in Christ, I love it when I see people that age — dealing with those issues, making these choices — because I think they are the more formative years of a persons life. Building your heart and mind. I love this message because I have devoted my life helping people with their marriages. I love the chance to talk to singles and say why most people get married is not a reason to get married. It is a passion for me, not a job. Anytime I get to talk to this demographic I am thrilled to do it.”
Several Sterling College students appeared pleased and touched by the lecture.
“This is definitely very different compared to other lectures,” student Aaron Rodriquez said. No one really teaches you what to look for in a wife/husband. It is amazing that he could shine light on something so important as the matter of marriage.”
