This week our Sterling College Tennis team had three home matches this week here at our college. They had one match on Thursday March 28th, and were supposed to have another two on Wednesday the 27th and Saturday the 30th. Unfortunately those were both cancelled because of the weather.
Kyler Comley, who plays number two on the team said this “Overall the team played really well, and we all got the points we needed to win and didn’t make many mistakes. As an individual I felt good about my game and winning it.”
The Men’s Sterling College Tennis team won 7-2 against Oklahoma Wesleyan university. They won all but one Singles match and lost a doubles match. Since they didn’t play the day before on Wednesday since it was cancelled due to the wind, they mens team were ready to go out and compete.
Drew Wright who plays number one on the team said, “I was actually pretty nervous. On paper, we should win against them so there is a great deal of pressure for us to preform to that expectation. In both singles and doubles, we knew that we really needed to just make alot of balls. Our opponents weren’t very consistent players so we went in with the strategy that if we made them hit 5 or 6 balls every point, that we would win a majority of the points.
Then the Tennis team was told that their matches on Saturday were cancelled because of the rain. The team was disappointed because they were excited to go out and play against Bethany College.
Nicole Marin said “The weather hasn’t had us play as much as we would like to, we just need to keep practicing and doing our best to win our next conference matches.”
Overall The Tennis Team has had many cancelations in their season it gives them more room to practice and get ready for the matches that do matter. Both the men and women teams are on track to continue their winning streak and are ready to take on more matches.
